Yui Choi |
Foshan Wing Chun Kung Fu Great Grandmaster Yui Choi 1890 -
1956.... |
| ...Yiu Choi (Yao Cai) first began learning Wing Chun Kuen from Yuen Chai-Wan
(Yin Cha-Wu) in roughly 1820 and studied under him until Yuen moved to
Vietnam in 1936. Just before he left, Yuen introduced Yiu Choi to his
friend, Ng Jung-So, to continue his studies. It is suggested Yiu might also
have received some instruction from Chan Wah-Shun as well. Yiu Choi and his
brother owned and operated smoke and gambling houses and later opened one on
Shilutou and offered space there for Ng Chun-So to hold his nightly classes.
Ng taught from the club for roughly a decade and when he retired, Yiu moved
him into his home and cared for him for roughly a decade more until he
passed away.Known as "Dai Lik" (Big Strong) due to his natural power, Yiu
Choi taught Wing Chun Kuen to his son, Yiu Kil (Yui Kay), as well as to
students such as Go Bing and Fok Joy. According to Grandmaster Yui Kil,
his father Great grandmaster Yui Choi was one of Yip Man's teachers. During
different stages of life, there was also a time when both Yui Choi and Yip
Man had the same teacher (Ng Chun-So).This makes Great Grandmaster Yui Choi
his Teacher Si-fu and also elder Si-Hing. Great Grandmaster Yui Choi is the
5th generation of wing Chun - bestowed upon him by Ng Chun So, the title
'Descendant of Wing Chun'. Yui Choi taught his son
Yui Kil and passed
onto to him the 'Wing Chun Descendant' title. On the 13th February 1988,
Grandmaster Yui Kil awarded
Master Wai-Po Tang the
title of 'Descendant of Wing Chun'. |

Grandmaster Yui Kil was born in Foshan, China in 1919... |
| ...He took up Wing Chun training at a
very young age of ten.He had been teaching Wing Chun for over
50 years. During this time, he had only taught 16 students. Unlike
outside China, Wing Chun was taught on a very personal level.
Grandmaster Yui Kil was renowned for his awesome 6 1/2
point pole and double swords combative techniques. He favors the original
Wing Chun bamboo dummy as opposed to the Wooden dummy. |

"In 1939, Master Nguyen Te Cong fled to Viet-Nam, since then, he
became the founding father (Su-to) of Việt nam Vĩnh Xuân Nội gia
Quyền (Vietnam WingChun) branch. From 1939 to 1954, Su-to stayed in
Hanoi, accepted and trained disciples in WingChun Kung-fu. These
disciples were Chinese and Vietnamese, among them there are several
considered as his true successors, and were pictured with him (see
photo). In reality, only 2 from these 6 disciples (in
the picture) open class to train WingChun, based on what they
had learned from Su-To. They are the late grandmaster Tran Thuc Tien
(the first from the right), the late grandmaster Tran Van Phung (the
first from the left, in glasses). Later on, there was also the
branch of the late grandmaster Ngo Sy Qui. At the end of 1954,
Su-to Nguyen Te Cong with his family went to the South Vietnam. In
the South, he accepted several disciples, some of them later open
class to train WingChun, such as Master Ho Hai Long (real name is
Nguyen Duy Hai). In Sai-gon (now is Ho-Chi-Minh City), Su-to Nguyen
Te Cong and his family lived in Dong Khanh Alley, Cho Lon
district. In the afternoon of 23/6/1959 (or 18/5 lunar calendar) He
passed away after 2 days since acquired disease. "
